English as an Additional Language (EAL) at IBSPL

As the majority of our pupils are Romanian, it is essential that our EAL provision is robust, well-structured and effective, ensuring that all students can fully access every subject within the curriculum.

At IBSPL, our EAL department is led by professionally qualified and experienced teachers who provide targeted English language support. Their role is to ensure that pupils develop the language skills necessary not only to succeed academically, but also to feel confident and comfortable in an English-speaking environment.

The primary aim of our EAL programme is to support students with limited English so that they can integrate quickly and confidently into school life.

All pupils are assessed upon entry to determine their level of English proficiency. Those identified as requiring additional support receive small-group EAL lessons within the school timetable, ensuring focused and personalised instruction. Where appropriate, in-class support is also provided to facilitate access to subject content.

As an international school, we recognise that some children may arrive with little or no English. With the guidance of our dedicated EAL team, pupils rapidly develop their language skills, enabling them to fully engage with the curriculum, participate actively in lessons, and build meaningful friendships.

At IBSPL, language is not a barrier – it is a bridge to opportunity.
